• There isn’t anything that I hate more than when another parent disciplines my kids. Actually, that’s not entirely true. If I’m not around and my kid is trying to get away with murder, I would prefer another adult to step in and set my kids straight. As always, it’s good for kids to see that they can’t get away with stuff just because mom isn’t around. They need to respect all adults and people in authoritative positions, not just Mommy.

It’s the parents who feel compelled to yell at my kids, or even simply raise their voices at them. That’s my job.

I do, however, take issue with parents disciplining my kids right in front of me. Before I get the chance, or trying to overrule my decision. I think the only exception to this is if my child is doing something completely dangerous and life threatening and I simply cannot react in time. It is a very tricky situation, I don’t like it if other kids are hitting mine for example, and if the mom of the offender doesn’t say anything what do you do? Generally, I just remove my child from the situation.

Honestly, I think this just comes down to tone of voice. If I am visiting a friend’s house, and my child breaks a rule that is enforced at their house and isn’t necessarily one of my rules, I wouldn’t mind if the hostess calmly stated that they don’t allow that at their house. I don’t mind this type of correction. It’s the parents who feel compelled to yell at my kids, or even simply raise their voices at them. That’s my job.

If you have seen my child do something wrong, and I haven’t seen it please, just tell me. Don’t take it upon yourself to train my child. It’s just going to make me not enjoy spending time with you. Am I alone feeling this way?
