• A fun activity for young school aged children is for them to explore their own personality. I have always felt that it is a great self-esteem builder to talk about their personal traits. To do this we usually paste a picture of them onto a big piece of construction paper, and then ask family members to provide a word to describe them. Then we fill the paper with all the words we come up with. When we did this with my daughter, she practically busted with pride of who she was. As she should, because she’s mine and is really cool.

This is a fun way to show kids their outer beauty, and by drawing all the words that describe them, their inner beauty too

Right around the same time I always have my kids draw a self portrait. I start with a nice large white piece of paper. I draw a big circle in the center for their head with a black marker. Under the head I draw a semi circle to represent their shoulders. And that’s it! You just give that to your child and as them to complete it, which gives you a window into how they see themselves. I have noticed that little kids, especially girls thrive on compliments. This is a fun way to show kids their outer beauty, and by drawing all the words that describe them, their inner beauty too.

I remember that my daughter forgot to draw her nose on the picture. It just wasn’t a part of her face that she thought about. It gave me the opportunity to say how much I loved her nose. It’s so cute and little. And now, to this day, she still smiles when I touch her nose. She says she remembers that I love it.

There could not be an easier and more fun way to boost some self esteem into your kids. You can do it once a year to compare it to years past.
