Let Your Imagination Run Wild

By: Mr. PlayDate

little girl painting a pictureWorking on creative activities with your children is both fun and gives them a sense of accomplishment. It promotes artistic expression, and improves patience, concentration, planning skills, motor activity, and communication. You can go with the traditional method of looking up different arts and crafts projects either from books or the internet, or be creative with a home improvement project.

Don’t feel limited by what you choose to pursue. Growth and development can come from coloring a picture frame to various home improvement projects like painting, gardening, or building a toy chest. You can buy the raw materials or ready-to-assemble kits. Either way, the main focus is to teach and model for your children that you are not afraid to get your hands dirty and try new tasks. Be sure to include your children in the search and selection process of finding a project and follow-up by carrying it through to completion, even if it takes a few days. There’s a good chance that no matter what you decide to create, your children will probably know less about it than you, so it’s okay to learn as you go. However, if that is not the case it’s good practice to have your children teach you what they’ve learned to sharpen their teaching skills.
