• I pride myself on keeping a clean home. It’s part of the responsibilities I took on when I accepted the role of homemaker (or at least pay someone to do it when I can treat myself).

But I have a deep dark secret: my bathroom. No matter what I do, the shower stall and tub get and stay stained and dingy. Not the kids bathroom for some reason. Somehow that bathroom shines as it should. Just my bathroom is the problem. My husband swears its because I wear flip flops year round and therefore have dirty feet. He is a flip flop hater. I swear it is because he has gross feet from working all day. I’m a gross foot hater.

Whatever it is, our bathtub gets gross. Even pouring a full bottle of bleach in there and letting it sit didn’t help. I have purchased every cleaner found at my local superstore that swears it will fix my problem. I have purchased special brushes for scrubbing the offensive area. It got to the point that I just took a shower without looking down.

Then my dear friend told me what she does. Her solution was so simple and I had all the ingredients already. Thought I would give it a try so I could add another failed attempt to my lists. Except this strangely simple concoction worked. I heated one cups of white vinegar in the microwave for two minutes. It was just under a boil. Then I mixed in two cups of Dawn dish soap. Just the plain blue Dawn. This makes a sort of gel. My friend suggested putting it into a spray bottle, but I just dumped it all over my tub concentrating on the areas that were the absolute grossest (no other word to better describe it). I let it sit for about 45 minutes, then returned with a sponge expecting to scrub until my hands were raw.

To my great surprise I barely had to wipe. All of that nasty dingy gunk came right off. I am now the proud owner of a shiny clean bathtub. I cannot wait to try this cleaner on other kitchen and bathroom problem areas!
