• My daughter is seven. Just a mere seven years old and already she suffers on occasion with doubting her self esteem. I am not sure where this comes from really. Goodness knows her daddy and I do our best to load her up with self-esteem, but the outside world can sometimes be hard. And sometimes, she just needs a reminder that she is absolutely awesome. This is why we chose to do the I Am Project with her. I first saw this idea on bravegirlsclub.com via Pinterest. It was love at first sight for me. I knew it was the right thing to do with my girl. If you head over to to that site you can download the PDF files to make your own I Am Project templates.

    Here is the gist.

She chose things like kind, honest, beautiful, brave, a good sister. All of those things are so true.

You take a canvas. You print out the PDFs. Your daughter picks out a bust that resembles hers and glues it to her canvas. Then she does the same for eyes and a mouth. She creates a picture of herself. Now here is the most amazing part. She can decorate the rest of the canvas with the words I am, and adjectives that describe the person she is. I absolutely love the way she was extremely thoughtful about the whole project and choosing her adjectives to make sure they were right. She chose things like kind, honest, beautiful, brave, a good sister. All of those things are so true.

The intent of this project is to help young girls be proud of who they are, and to never forget who they are.

When you are finished with your adjectives and other decorating just cover the whole thing in Mod Podge to protect it. Currently my daughter’s is hanging in her room. We have not sealed it with Mod Podge yet because she is still pondering other attributes worth sticking on. Smart girl, this one. Albeit a bit of an overachiever.
