• We make a lot of crafts around here. Because of that I am always looking for easier ways to do things. So when I heard about making play dough in the microwave I jumped at the opportunity to give it a try. Normally it takes me about twenty to thirty minutes to make a batch of play dough. This recipe takes less than ten. Sold again! My absolute favorite part is that this play dough does not call for cream of tartar. I always seem to forget to buy that stuff at the store. It also doesn’t need food coloring. I have bad luck with food coloring. Another plus is that it doesn’t smell like most homemade play dough. It smells yummy.

    Ingredients:
    2 cups flour
    1/2 cup salt
2 packages of unsweetened (very important!) Kool Aid drink mixes
    2 cups water
    3 tablespoons oil

Mix all of your dry ingredients together in a large bowl. The unsweetened Kool Aid is important. If you goof and buy regular sweetened kind you will end up with a sticky mess. And ants. Don’t be like me.

Boil your water in your microwave. Mine takes about four minutes before it is good and bubbly.

Carefully remove the water from the microwave, and slowly pour it into the dry ingredients. Add the oil and stir! Keep stirring until you get dough! Once your dough has formed resist the urge to touch it. It will still be very hot.

Allow it to cool and knead away. Better yet have your kids knead away.

The colors of this dough are really fun. Each flavor makes a unique color, some are extremely saturated and others beautifully muted. Again, they also smell pretty darn good, so watch out for your little ones trying to sneak a taste.

This play dough keeps well when sealed in plastic bags or containers. I have had some last us months. It all depends on how well it’s sealed and how often it’s handled.
