• Motherhood is so chaotic. Sometimes I feel like I’m hanging in there and doing an all right job. But at some point during your parenting journey you think, “This is impossible, how does so-and-so keep it together?” “How do they do it and keep their sanity.”

Now that I’m a more seasoned parent, I have asked several other moms (about 23 to be exact) about their confessions of a new mom. Things I wish I knew when I was struggling.

I hope this list brings you both humor, and a sigh of relief that you are not the only one!

    1. 1. When my son was 12 months, he was so adept at removing his clothes and diaper I would find him finger painting with poop more days than not. During nap time (the most likely for his painting episode) I put his diaper on backwards so he couldn’t reach the velcro and I once duct taped it on.
    2. 2. I was so tired when my daughter was a newborn that I accidentally poured expressed breast milk into my husband’s coffee. I never did tell him.
    3. 3. I ran to the grocery store to pick up some emergency diapers, I was so happy to be out by myself for a moment that I took my time. I ran into an old friend who then pointed out the HUGE spit up stain on the back of my shirt. I didn’t even know it was there! I became so upset and embarrassed that my breasts started leaking. Thank goodness I had breast pads on!
    4. 4. I am not ashamed to admit I often bribe my 5 year old. Sometimes with candy, other times with small toys. Bribery nearly guarantees good behavior.
    5. 5. 17 out of 23 moms admitted to dropping their kids, or to the fact that they rolled off the bed or diaper changer. Some said they considered it “Good Luck.”
    6. 6. All 23 said that they let their kids cry for a few minutes in their cribs in the hope that they go back to sleep.
    7. 7. A few admitted that they let their kids play in their cribs in the morning while they take a shower.
    8. 8. My 20 month old son had a period when he would poop at least 6 times a day. I remember once I was so tired of changing his “man poops” that I let it sit for about 15 minutes so that daddy would find it.
    9. 9. I got in the car with some adults for a moms night out, I was so used to having no one but the kids in the car I actually said, “Hold on, here we gooo! Vrooooom!”
    10. 10. I occasionally still talk to my husband as if he is three. Sometimes he’s acting like it, and others not so much.
    11. 11. I’ve gone somewhere without my kids and listened to their CD the whole way, singing along, not even realizing what I was doing.
    12. 12. I’ve had toy envy of my kids toys.
    13. 13. All 23 said that they occasionally have days where they allow their kids to watch TV all day long.
    14. 14. Everyone said that they occasionally feel like they have lost control and are going insane.
    15. 15. 5 think they are already insane.
    16. 16. 16 said they have told people that their kids are sick to get out of going somewhere.
    17. 17. All moms said parenting is the best job ever.
